We’re back with more exciting updates for you fellow Dandyians!
This time, Dandy has been invited as one of the official restaurants for Penang Souq Ramadan. It is such an honour to be chosen and to be recognised by the Penang state government to be part of its Ramadan initiatives.
As a bonus, this achievement will definitely fire up the motivation for the Dandy family to do better to provide you with a wonderful dining experience.
So what exactly is a Souq?
Here’s what wikipedia says…
A souq or souk (also spelled soq, souk, esouk, suk, sooq, souq, or suq) is an open-air marketplace or commercial quarter in an Arab, or Berber city. A souk or souq is a free-market where vendors can say the going market price for their products. The term is often used for the market in any Arab or Muslim city.
In short…Kalo orang Penang cakap… Bazaar Ramadan lah tu…
And we’re not exactly “open-air” – our restaurants are fully air-conditioned with an open kitchen concept and comfortable seating (in case you’ve not visited our outlets). FYI – if you are looking for al-fresco dining, there’s a section in our Queensbay Mall outlet for that.
Anyways…
The Penang Souq Ramadan was officiated by the Governor of Penang, His Excellency Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak at Komtar Walk on March 13, 2023, accompanied by his entourage the Deputy Chief Minister of Penang 1, Chairman of the International Trade, Domestic Trade, Consumer Affairs and Entrepreneur Development, and a handful of other VIPs.
This is the second time the state government is organising the event after a two-year break (no thanks to COVID) and it demonstrates the state’s continuous commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and traders to spur economic activities during Ramadan.

On a separate but related event, we’ve also attended the Halal Coffee Talk VIP for Hotels and Restaurants in Eastin Hotel the following day.
Officiated by YB Dato’ Ir. Haji Ahmad Zakiyuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, the main coffee talk revolved around key topics like Internal Halal System, Halal under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, and the Respect Ramadan Campaign (Kempen Hormati Ramadan).
It was an insightful event and we hope to apply what we’ve learned in all our outlets to support the regulatory bodies in their mission.
Last but not least…
Ramadan Mubarak to all our muslim friends!
